The belief that you are the body, the thoughts, the mind and the ego is not a problem; that is not what causes the trouble. That belief comes and goes, and it is actually harmless. The belief that is harmful is the belief that whether or not you are the body, the thoughts, the mind and the ego, you are at stake and in danger here.

Hi John, I love your talks, thank you so much for being there for all us still caught in fear. I have a question. When I look at myself, the one who is always here, the taste of that is usually uncomfortable, I prefer looking elsewhere because when I look at myself I am reminded of the fear of being me in this world I seem so out of place in. Then I think, well I can't be looking at myself, if myself is so uncomfortable, if I were really looking at myself, it would feel good. I really identify with the comment you made in this talk where you felt like everyone was real but you, I feel like everyone else I know has some kind of goodness/realness to their life, but me, I feel so lost. Thanks for your time and interest, Carin
